Implementing Building Information Modelling for the Reconstruction Process of Unfinished Building Projects

Abstract

A large number of unfinished building projects (UBP) can be found in post-soviet systems, and several central and east European countries are actively working on solutions. The current situation in Ukraine is further investigated, including legal aspects leading to an ambiguous description of UBPs that potentially hinders the reconstruction and future use of UBPs in this country. Based on a literature review of available examples and methodology, the outline of an approach tailored to the specific situation of UBPs in Ukraine is presented. It combines aspects of as-built BIM for existing buildings, with findings in the context of information management for the restoration and maintenance of historical buildings and advanced methods for decision support and assessment of built assets. Relevant case studies have been initiated, and they will serve in future research to apply, evaluate and further improve the proposed methodology.
