Abstract
Since the first proposal of quantum dot in 1982, the quantum dots have been intensively investigated for both fundamental solid state physics and application to advanced photonic devices. In this presentation, we overview progress in physics and engineering of the quantum dots, including successful development of quantum dot lasers. Prospect of future photonic devices based on the the quantum dots is also discussed.
