Abstract
All outline is given of two different approaches used to study the problem of kiln induced draft (ID) fan buildup problems. These are: (1) a study based on information from as many plants as possible to see if a pattern of buildup can be related to plant operating parameters and or raw material composition; (2) a laboratory study in which process operating conditions of the kiln ID fan were set up on a small scale to determine if the buildup problem seem in the field could be duplicated, and, if so, how could it be eliminated. Theories as to primary causes for the buildup have been divided into four primary groups: thermal, clinical, electrostatic and mechanical. All are discussed. Results of laboratory test work are outlined.<>
