Abstract

The spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is an active sensor that emits microwaves from its antenna and observes backscattered waves from the earth's surface, allowing for 24-h observations of the earth in all weather conditions. Using spaceborne SAR data, this characteristic is being used to detect natural disasters that cannot be observed by optical sensors, such as typhoons, heavy rains, and nighttime disasters. An automatic detection system for natural disaster occurrence using spaceborne SAR data is proposed in this paper, which automatically detects the occurrence of natural disasters based on emergency observation spaceborne SAR data and reports the possibility of natural disaster occurrence.
