Dedicated and Effective: Predictive Research in Students of Elementary Education Career

Abstract

The present study aims to identify the predictive relationships between dedication, academic self-efficacy and the components of academic burnout (emotional exhaustion, indifference and student efficacy) in students of the elementary education career of a private university in Lima - Peru. The sample consisted of 87 university students (12 men (13.8%) and 75 women (86.2%) between 19 and 55 years of age $(\mathrm{M}_{age}= \mathrm{26.51,\ SD=7.82})$, of which 67 were born in Lima (77.0%) and 17 (19.5%) of provinces. The results showed that men have more student efficacy than women and that provincial students have a higher level of dedication than those in the capital. In addition, it is concluded that the dedication predicts negatively to emotional exhaustion and indifference; but it positively predicts academic self-efficacy and student efficacy. Finally, the mediation model confirmed significantly with the Sobel Test that dedication predicts student efficacy when mediated by academic self-efficacy.
