Abstract

This chapter gives background on the pre-Code era of filmmaking and Joseph Breen, along with Howard Hughes' entry into the film industry and his decision to return to filmmaking after a decade. The chapter also details Howard Hawks’ involvement with developing The Outlaw, including the casting, and how Jane and Jack Buetel got the parts in the film.
