Abstract

The national shutdown of schools due to the Corona pandemic is a particular challenge for students with special educational needs. A large proportion of this group comprises children and adolescents from socially disadvantaged backgrounds, whose equal participation in distance learning is currently not guaranteed. Beiheft (2020) parental support. The present chapter illustrates, using the Laborschule Bielefeld as an example, how the challenges can be met despite the adverse circumstances. Nevertheless, it is emphasized that the measures cannot replace attendance at school and that political decisions are needed to ensure that the lower educational opportunities of students with special educational needs are not further reduced.
