Abstract

We have made significant progress towards achieving 100 Gb/in/sup 2/. We have designed and fabricated a super-solid immersion lens (SIL), implemented a new spot size measurement technique capable of measuring very small near-field spots, fabricated centre aperture detection magnetic super resolution (CAD-MSR) media and demonstrated turbo coding for ultra high recording densities. We will report the details of this effort and the recording densities that have been achieved.
