A evolução das matrículas na educação básica no Brasil

Abstract

The article is intended, on the basis of educational census and academic literature, to provide a picture of State and municipal enrolments between 2007 and 2017 and private enrolments between 2006 and 2017 in basic education (all schooling prior to higher education) in Brazil, and to analyse some explanations offered for this evolution. The study detected a reduction in the number of State  (-5.704.486) and municipal (-1.429.275) enrolments, the growth in private enrolments (+1.540.858), with huge differences between regions and States. It points out the insufficiency of explanations for this reduction and suggests that governmental political action have contributed to this diverse picture.
