We had the product, the RTU being used in dams in Thailand, when a user wants to add a feature or more channels to it, the user will have to buy a new RTU or an I/O expansion unit to expand it. In this paper, we show the method by which the Universal Remote Terminal Unit (uRTU) can adjust its channels and features without changing the software configuration with card modules that are auto configurable. Users can add more features or change features of the uRTU without buying a new unit by adding or changing the card module. In addition the users can change card modules between a uRTU with other uRTUs. It is convenient for the users to do it by themselves.
