A Meta-Analysis on the Role of Aspirin in the Primary Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease

Abstract

This chapter provides a summary of a landmark meta-analysis in preventive medicine. Is aspirin effective for the prevention of cardiovascular disease in apparently healthy adults? Starting with that question, it describes the basics of the analysis, including funding, who was studied, how many patients, study overview, study intervention, follow-up, endpoints, results, and criticism and limitations. The chapter briefly reviews other relevant studies and information, discusses implications, and concludes with a relevant clinical case.
