Abstract
The occurrence of transient events in AC microgrid creates disturbances in steady-state characteristics of bus voltage and current waveforms. These transient events need to be characterized by some feature vector set. In this paper, an event identification technique has been proposed by deriving features using continuous wavelet transform with teager energy operator to identify whether the transient event is a fault or switching event. The key characteristic of the teager operator is that it tracks the instantaneous energy of the signal as it requires only three samples for computation of energy at each time instant. Hence disturbances during transient events get reflected in teager energy function and as a result it gives sharper spikes in its consecutive value at event inception time. To verify the efficacy of the proposed technique extensive simulation has been carried out at MATLAB/Simulink platform to generate transient events including, shunt faults, load switching, distribution generator switching, grid disconnection.
