Abstract

In the industry trend toward third generation (3G) cellular systems, a great deal of emphasis has been placed on packet based transport, especially by adapting the Internet Protocol. At the same time, there is a trend across the communications industry to converge voice and data at the transport level. The interests of the major players are accelerating the development of new standards and availability of new products to support the benefits of convergence. It is now possible to employ existing VoIP technology solutions currently available to provide CDMA systems that are based on third generation system architectures.
