Abstract

A reliability study was made of a 1774 PLC used in an ingot plant's offline area to monitor and control material handling from the hot mill scalpers as well as the finishing-to-ingot-scrap-chip system. The study was prompted by a series of rampant failures. The author discusses the factors that led to the problems as well as the decisions resulting from the data analysis.
