Recommendations for Specifying, Installing, Maintaining and Repairing Electric Motors That Will Provide Optimum Performance and Service

Abstract

This paper is directed towards those who are not necessarily experts when dealing with industrial AC motor applications yet have the responsibility to assure that they are applied, operated, and maintained properly in order to assure long life, trouble free service. Motors that are specifically applied in the Petro-Chem industry are built in accordance with the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) standards such as IEEE 841 [1], API 547 [2], API 546 [3], API 541 [4] and are the main focus of this paper. International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) [5] standards are also taken into consideration (mainly the IEC 60034 series).
