The Medieval Saivite World Portrayed on the Prâkâra Wall of the Mallikârjuna Temple at Srisailam

Abstract

This chapter describes the location of Srisailam and its long history, together with the pilgrim routes which approached the holy mountain from the four directions. Moreover, the prâkâra is discussed in a general way followed by a section on dating this great wall. This is followed by an examination of a selection of the panels.
