Abstract

In this paper, conversion efficiency of microwave photonic down-conversion without RF oscillator is investigated. The performance of amplitude modulator and phase modulator that employed for down-conversion are compared through a 16QAM microwave photonic simulation system, including RF signal generation, down-conversion and coherent detection. Finally, several methods are proposed to improve conversion efficiency of microwave photonic down-conversion, and then the sensitivity of millimeter wave wireless signal receiver.
