Abstract
The power system behavior needs to be analyzed under all the possible different fault conditions which are the abnormal and undesirable conditions. Perhaps, these power system fault may lead to an unstable and unsecure power system operation. Therefore, a fast detection and consequent clearance of these faults is essential to resume normal operating condition in power system. In this paper, the short circuit responses (behaviors) of power system have been analyzed for various type of shunt-type faults (i.e. symmetrical and asymmetrical faults) as well as open-conductor faults using MATLAB Simulink platform. The study shows the significance of symmetrical and asymmetrical fault current investigations for the description of apparatus rating which must upkeep these currents.
