Abstract

The film «Green Oases in Athens» is an educational documentary which aims at informing its viewers about the urban green areas which can be found in the city of Athens. The educational documentary focuses its interest on three specific areas: the National Garden, the Firing Range of Kaisariani as well as the Veikou Grove. Through this film, the city of Athens is presented in detail, while issues such as those of lack of natural resources, pollution as well as the lack of green spaces in the capital city are addressed. The presentation of the «green oases» raises the attention of the audience towards the areas of green in Athens while it aims at altering the perception of the city as a mere concrete jungle. The interviews which take place along with the conclusion of the film are intended to puzzle the viewers and to offer them several ideas and choices regarding a certain area of green which they could potentially choose as «green» way out of the hustle and bustle of the metropolis. .
