Abstract

Piracy trends across the globe last year reaffirm that the illegal duplication of software presents a serious problem for software developers everywhere. Regionally a total of 19 European countries experienced the highest dollar loss -more than $ 4.9 billion -with an average piracy rate of 61 percent. While dollar losses in 11 countries in the Middle East, Africa, and India were more than $666 million, this region had the highest average piracy rate -85 percent. Eleven countries in Latin America lost a total of more than $822 million, and regionally experienced the second highest piracy rate -83 percent.
