Abstract
Abstract: Acute mesenteric ischemia is a rare cause of acute abdomen, characterized by decreased blood flow to the intestine, which implies less oxygen transport, which does not meet the metabolic needs of the tissues. Early identification is the cornerstone to achieve good therapeutic results and reduce mortality associated with this condition. Materials and methods: This bibliographical review was carried out by means of an in-depth search and selection of articles of scientific value using a mixed methodology of qualitative and quantitative analysis, to organize and present the information in order to filter and use only studies based on in structured and systematic integration, discarding all unconfirmed information or outdated bibliographical references. Results: The main treatment is based on restoring perfusion to the ischemic bowel, and resection of any area of necrosis. Surgery and endovascular interventions are two complementary therapeutic measures for the management of this pathology; that must be chosen according to the patient's condition and availability in each health center.
