Abstract

Application-specific computing systems are hardware and software systems designed specifically for a family of related applications. In contrast to developing algorithms to run on a general-purpose computer, application-specific system design techniques match the computing structure to the problem. Thus, application-specific computing systems can offer 100 to 1000 fold improvements in cost versus performance over general-purpose computers on applications such as signal processing, interactive graphics, heuristic search, numerical simulation, and many others. In this paper, we present a computational model for an application-specific multiprocessor system for multidimensional digital signal processing applications.
