Conduction mechanisms in dielectric solids

Abstract

In 1977 there were a number of important developments in the understanding of conduction mechanisms in dielectrics. Probably the most important was the extensive discussion of dispersive transport which is showing up in more and more amorphous solids. There was extensive mathematical treatment introduced which is bringing us closer to an understanding of the microscopic mechanisms. In addition, there is a lively controversy concerning whether hopping motion of carriers can really lead to dispersive transport or whether only trap controlled drift in extended states is effective.
