Realization of an FIR filter using ATMEGA32 microcontroller

Abstract

Window functions can be used to design a filter having a linear phase finite impulse response (FIR). The Kaiser Window method for the design of FIR filters is implemented in hardware. It achieves wide band filtering when a conventional N-bit microcontroller is used for the implementation because of the simple relationship established among most of the filter coefficients. In this paper, linear programming method will be utilized to determine optimum window coefficients which depend not only on the length of the filter but also on the specifications of the desired filter.
