Abstract

The parallel problems of knowledge representation and knowledge navigation are addressed. Traditional approaches are criticized and alternative ideas are presented. An instructional system project based upon recent advances in cognitive semantics is presented. These advances suggest that the spatial representation of knowledge has several advantages. Specifically, a spatial approach to the representation of knowledge in a database and to the representation of course structure on screen is described.
