Abstract

The use of parallelism as an architecture for high data rate networks is described. Parallelism provides a number of advantages when used as an integral part of the organization of a network, including a favorable cost/benefit ratio, scalability and fault tolerance capability not achievable with serial networks, and an upward migration path from existing networks. Parallel network designs that use replicated Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI) are being formulated. The work on parallel networks complements other work on high data rate networks.
