Abstract

This work is focused on the free space optical links and the laser beam transmission via atmospheric transmission media. Meteorological visibility is presented in the work as well as Kim and Kruse models for determination of atmospheric attenuation. Model of the free space optical link is briefly described in the paper and typical parameters of the optical wireless link are mentioned. Conception of communication margin is introduced in relation to maximal range of optical wireless link. Communication wavelengths 850 nm and 1550 nm are taken into account in attenuation characteristics calculation.
