Abstract

In this paper, a Planar wide-angle scanning array is designed with low sidelobe level (SLL) by the nonuniform layout and the random rotation of elements. Initially, a microstrip-monopole antenna unit is designed and the wide beam and circular polarization are obtained. Besides that, the positions and rotation angle of array element are optimized to realize low SLL and improve the axis ratio (AR) performance. The array is fabricated and measured. The experimental results indicate that the designed phased array support a scan up to ±56° in both orthogonal planes with the gain fluctuation of 4.3 dB, which are identical to the simulation results.
