Abstract

Network topology discovery is the basic function in network management system, it's also a key point to ensure the networks working well. This paper first provides an overview of the network topology discovery, and then analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of existing algorithms about the network topology discovery. Finally, it designs a hierarchical topology discovery algorithm. This algorithm can completely discover the topology of network layer and physical layer.
