Abstract
The article deals with the problems outlined in the letters of the Russian
Ambassador to France A.P. Izvolsky to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of
Russia S.D. Sazonov. Among the issues raised by A. P. Izvolsky were the retreat of French troops at the beginning of the First World War and the assessment of the risks of the Russian Empire losing an ally in the person of
