Abstract
The U.S. Air Force has come a long way in its approach to the management of large Automatic Data Processing (ADP) projects. However, there are still many unsolved problems, particularly in the software management area.
This short paper traces the evolution of software management of large computer developments in the Air Force from the SAGE Command and Control System in 1954 to the present. This paper also outlines what has been accomplished, what is on the horizon and what further requirements are necessary to provide better software management.
