Abstract

Letterpress is a manual, mechanical and technical process of relief printing with moveable type and printing presses. Since its inception more than 550 years ago, manufacturing technology has been an inherent part of the printing process. Once an essential means of communication, letterpress has reemerged over recent decades as a technology of craft, art and design (Raffaelli, 2019). Professional and amateur printers and craftspersons have formed a multigenerational community dedicated to sharing knowledge for the use and preservation of letterpress.
