THE DISUNITY BETWEEN PSYCHOLOGY AND PSYCHIATRY – A REFLECTIVE PIECE

Abstract

A disunity seems to exist between psychology and psychiatry, stemming from their distinct theoretical backgrounds, with a notable disconnect in how to approach and treat severe mental health conditions. This reflective piece will seek to discuss and attempt to answer the questions – is there room for psychology and psychiatry to grow by addressing their disunity? And consequently, can more be done for those with these more severe mental illnesses by mirroring the efforts and advancements of clinical psychology for those with more ‘low intensity’ mental health conditions?
