Abstract

It is not desirable to use electric machines with high inertia rotors for servomotor drives, ultra-high-speed nonenergy-storage drives, and drives with frequent starts and stops, This paper introduces the design considerations of a low-inertia, composite or light metal, axial-gap, permanent-magnet motor and its control. Tests were conducted on a composite-rotor prototype motor.
