Abstract
In this work, we followed a new methodology to construct an indicator that reflects an assessment of the total cost of charging a light-duty electric vehicle (EV) in Uruguay. We differentiate between private cars, taxis, and digital platforms. With the Levelized Cost of Charging (LCOC), we captured the variations related to charging sites, types of equipment, cost, and time of charging. We investigated the LCOC for residential and work/public charging sites and an average LCOC for chargeable EV, which represents the current charging patterns. We also performed a sensitivity analysis for a deeper understanding of the factors that drive the LCOC and how much the cost of charging an EV affects in Uruguay. Furthermore, this indicator was used to calculate the lifetime fuel cost of charging, which measures the total fuel saving of an EV compared with an Internal Combustion Engine Vehicle (ICEV) under similar conditions. In order to make these comparisons, we made several assumptions regarding the future oil prices, charging behaviors, types of equipment costs, and vehicle use (VMT). Finally, we compared the LCOC found for Uruguay with the LCOC for the United States.
