Abstract
This article presents a method for determining the forces and impulses acting in a gas-operated automatic weapon. The presented mathematical model is validated and experimentally verified for 7,62mm machine gun UK-59 and ammunition 7,62x54R. An analysis on the influence that the gas port has on the forces and impulses acting on the weapon mount is included. The results of the paper are a reliable scientific basis not only for the calculation and optimal design of these automatic weapons but also for the calculation, design and optimization of the weapon mount and carriage of these weapons.
