Abstract

In this paper, a novel analytical approach is proposed for phase noise of 4-stages multi path ring oscillators. The method utilizes the Generalized Adler's equation to describe the locking dynamics and assumes the noise as a small signal perturbation applied to steady-state solution. By solving the system of perturbation differential equations, the formula for phase noise is derived. Then, the multi path ring oscillator is simulated in 0.18-um CMOS technology. There is good agreement between simulation results and proposed formula.
