State-Owned Oil Company Case Studies: SOCAR

Abstract

SOCAR is Azerbaijan's most vertically integrated national oil and gas company engaged in production, transportation and processing operations on the Azerbaijan territory. SOCAR also owns significant shares in the BTC Pipeline that is the main export route for oil extracted from the Azeri-Chirag-Deepwater Gunashli (ACG) fields, in the ACG and Shahdeniz PSA including the SCP that is the main export route for the ACG and Shah Deniz fields and in a number of international pipelines. Additionally, SOCAR owns a controlling share in Petkim (51%), the only petrochemical manufacturer in Turkey.
