Abstract
In this chapter the essential aspects of anesthesia for laryngeal papillomatosis are reviewed. Specifically, the hazards of this type of surgery, including the risk of airway fire, are reviewed. The steps needed to treat airway fire are reviewed, as well as precautions to take in order to prevent it. The chapter is divided into preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative sections with important subtopics related to the main topic in each section. Topics addressed under preoperative evaluation include related respiratory and cardiac concerns, and premedication. Intraoperative management addresses issues related to induction, including use of a reinforced endotracheal tube. Postoperative treatment of airway fire and postoperative carbon dioxide laser complications are also discussed.
