The Study on Continuous Cooperation Mode in Virtual Organizations Based on Projects: A Case Study of Biogen Idec Company

Abstract

This study selects Biogen Idec Company which is a leader in biotechnology industry as the case and analyzes its continuous cooperation mode in virtual organizations. Specifically, we investigate the mode involving multi-level cooperation, seeking potential cooperative projects and continuously providing post-supports to cooperators. The findings show that the continuous cooperation mode is proactively seeking project resources based on the expected performance with the aim to expand market demands, and this mode is also a deep exploration for innovating corporate operation and maintaining market stability. However, this mode requires companies to competently subdivide projects and re-integrate the divided projects. Finally, we discuss the feasibility of this mode applied in corporate operations and implications for Chinese companies on establishing virtual organizations.
