Abstract
Developing the premise that consistency across related applications is a primary design focus, the authors present a framework of conceptual elements that form the basis of a virtual operator interface definition. The procedure to be followed for the implementation of this definition is outlined. It is suggested that the practical implementation of the proposed theoretical structure could be developed through industry standards to provide a uniform look and feel for all automated systems.<>
