Zum Problem der Verminderung des Blutverlustes nach Operationen mit Hilfe des extrakorporalen Kreislaufs

Abstract

The possibilities of reducing postoperative blood loss after operations under conditions of extra corporeal circulation are outlined, based on the findings in 120 patients. By changing the perfusion technique, application of an exact heparin-protamin titration method, regular administration of fibrinogen, increase of the heparin dose and by prophylactic and therapeutic administration of Eaminocaproic acid applicable intravenously we succeeded in reducing the postoperative blood loss in a series of 66 patients to 11.1. ml/kg body weight as compared to 28.7 ml/kg in a series of 54 patients operated upon previously. In cyanotic lesions the average postoperative blood loss decreased only slightly, but in acyanotic lesions an average of 7.6 ml/kg bodyweight could be achieved. This is a value normal in cardiovascular surgery without cardiopulmonary by-pass.
