Abstract
For sustaining a consistent and secure operation, the stability of large power systems (Power Grids) turns out to be paramount importance. Identifying power line outages becomes very difficult and complex when the size of the system increases. The two main limitations for simulating power system networks in real time are computational complexity and data storage. Here a new methodology is proposed for finding real-time updated system matrices using the Woodbury formula. This paper gives information about the identification of power line outages in AC load flow using PMUs. Pre-outage and Post-outage time required by PMUs to detect the line outages in different IEEE bus systems are compared. Pre- and Post-outage values of active power, reactive power, voltage magnitude, and phase angle are also compared for IEEE-14 and IEEE-30 bus systems and for the system to operate economically, PMUs are placed at optimal locations in this work.
