Abstract

The goal of this paper is to compare the file system performance of physical operating system and Docker as container-based virtualization using its mechanism for persisting data with Volumes and Bind mounts. The importance of virtualization and its popularity with container-based virtualization is mentioned with an emphasis on OS-type virtualization. In addition, this article contains a detailed description of the Dockers mechanism for persistent data, its operating mode and the difference between Volumes and Bind mounts.
