Abstract

Devices based on Power Electronics have been used to successfully improve the power transfer and stability in Transmission Lines, however they can produce malfunction in protection schemes, for instance errors caused by modification in apparent impedance by FACTS. In this work an algorithm programed in a microcontroller to detect and locate line faults in compensated transmission line is presented. The scheme is based on Traveling Waves and Discrete Wavelet Transform, so it has two advantages, it is adequate for high speed protection and it can work properly in transmission line compensated with Thyristor Controlled Series Compensator.
