Abstract

The dual ferrite toroid latched phase shifter (VPS) is analyzed using the finite element method (FEM) to predict useful design properties as differential phase shift and the dispersion of higher order modes. In this paper, the static magnetization of the ferrite was approximated using a simple empirical model, that was found to yield good results. Theoretical and experimental results are compared as functions of frequency (8-14 GHz), temperature (-50°C - +l00°C) and ferrite material (YIG, MgMn and LiTi). The FEM results are also compared with theoretical results from the less rigorous multiple slab model.
