Abstract

In this paper, a kernel based on bi-directional Gaussian function is proposed to compute time-frequency distribution (TFD) of non-stationary signals. By controlling two parameters of the kernel in time lag and frequency lag directions, the new distribution makes a good improvement in time-frequency resolution and avoids the influence of cross terms. The application in instantaneous frequency (IF) estimation also demonstrates the distribution effective. Simulation results show that the TFD has good performance
