Municipal Solid Waste Management in Nainital, Uttarakhand: A Case Study‡

Abstract

Well-organized provision of community services and infrastructure are critical issues for local self-governing organization like municipalities in most developing cities of India. Solid waste has turn out to be the main concern. Solid Waste Management (SWM) is expensive and complex system for local self-governing organizations as it is directly concerned with the health, environment and quality of life of the local people. Incorrect waste collection practices and improper solid waste disposal can pose a serious hazard of local disease outbreak, water source pollution and greenhouse gases.
