A Case Study of Bamboo-Based Industry in Mizoram

Abstract

Northeastern region of India is known for its rich bamboo reserves. As the world is grappling with ecological and economic problems, bamboo is being seen as a resource with the potential to turnaround both economy and ecology of a region. Through bamboo grows abundantly, Mizoram - a northeastern state, is yet to tap the fullest potential of this resource. This paper uses the case study method and explores a bamboo-based industry in Mizoram manufacturing bamboo wood charcoal and vinegar. The study documents the value chain of the said industry and the problems being faced while running the industry.
