An Actor Despairs

Abstract

The 1994 Symposium of the International Federation for Theatre Research took place in Moscow. On one of the arranged visits, to Stanislavski's former house on Chaykovskogo ul., the following document was found, in a hastily-scribbled manuscript form, on a few scrappy pieces of paper stuffed down the back of a sofa. Painstaking scholarship has now established it as one of the famous missing chapters on the Stanislavski system. It is presented here in a translation by Michael Mangan.
